Senator Onyewuchi Joins Celebration as NDDC Marks 25 Years of Service

It was a period of reflection and celebration across the Niger Delta, as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) marked its 25th anniversary on 12th July, 2020 at the Obi Wali Conference Centre, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

A significant federal agency established to drive development in the oil-rich region, the NDDC’s journey has been one of both remarkable milestones and considerable challenges.

Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, a strong advocate for development and empowerment in his constituency, was among the distinguished guests who participated in the landmark celebrations.

The NDDC, established in December 2000, was born out of a critical need to address the socio-economic and infrastructural deficits in the Niger Delta region. Its mandate has been to facilitate the rapid, even, and sustainable development of the Niger Delta into a region that is economically prosperous, socially stable, ecologically regenerative, and politically peaceful.

The 25th-anniversary celebrations, which began with a thanksgiving service and included a World Press Conference, cultural parades, and culminating events in Port Harcourt, provided an opportunity to assess the Commission’s impact over a quarter-century.

Discussions during the events highlighted the NDDC’s various projects in infrastructure, health, education, and human capital development, while also acknowledging areas where further efforts are needed.

Senator Onyewuchi’s presence at this significant event underscores his keen interest in regional development and the effective utilization of resources for the benefit of the people. As a Senator representing Imo East Senatorial District, a part of the broader Niger Delta region, he has consistently championed initiatives that empower individuals and communities, much like the core mandate of the NDDC. His legislative interests have often revolved around using agencies like the NDDC to foster human development and wealth creation.

His attendance at the anniversary celebration provided an avenue to engage with key stakeholders, including the NDDC management, other political leaders, and community representatives, to discuss strategies for accelerating development and ensuring greater accountability in the region. It reinforces his commitment to advocating for projects and policies that will bring lasting positive change to the lives of his constituents and the entire Niger Delta.

As the NDDC looks forward to its next chapter, the collaborative efforts of leaders like Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, working in synergy with the Commission and other relevant bodies, will be crucial in realizing the full potential of the Niger Delta.

The celebration of 25 years is not just about looking back at achievements, but also about charting a bold and effective course for the future, ensuring that the Niger Delta truly becomes a region of peace, prosperity, and sustainable development for all its inhabitants
