Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi of Imo East Senatorial District was among the dignitaries who graced the Convocation Ceremony of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
FUTO, at its 36th Convocation Ceremony, bestowed Honorary Doctorate Degrees on three distinguished Nigerians, among whom are: The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Babagana Zulum of Borno State.

The wife of the President of Nigeria was conferred with Doctor of Management, (D. Mgt), Governor Uzodinma was conferred with Doctor of Technology, (D.Tech) while Governor Zulum bagged Doctor of Technology, (D.Tech).
FUTO Vice Chancellor,Prof Nnenna Oti, on the occasion said the university bestowed the honours on them for their service to humanity, championing the cause of development and growth in Nigeria, as well as massive support to the institution.

In his address, read on his behalf by Prof Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, President Tinubu said education is critical for poverty alleviation and promotion of national growth and development, hence its inclusion in the eight priority areas of his administration.

He further harped on the great need for graduates to harness the potentials in agricultural, vocational and Information Technology Skills to add value to themselves and the nation at large, in the face of dwindling opportunities for white-collar jobs.
Reacting to President Tinubu’s advocacy for graduates to embrace skills acquisition, the media office of Distinguished Senator Onyewuchi, described the call as nothing short of open endorsement of its principal’s long standing vision that skills acquisition, is the best strategy for tackling unemployment in the country.

The office noted that the Senator representing Imo East Senatorial District, came to that realization over twelve years ago, resulting in his continuous intervention in the area right from his first term in the House of Representatives.
According to the office, he has almost completed the first ever mega skills acquisition centre in the South East, and trained over two thousand people in over ten different skills in the last six months, adding that he is poised to continue deepening and sustaining interventions in skills entrepreneurship, and human capital development generally.
